2013 MPASA PICA AWARDS – EARLY BIRD ENTRIES CLOSE ON 23AUGUST 2013

The Pica Awards is known as the Oscars of the South African magazine industry. The event allows over 600 decision-makers in the magazine industry, including publishers, business managers, financial managers, circulation/distribution managers, editors, art directors and journalists to celebrate publishing and editorial excellence.

Entries for the 44th annual Pica Awards, hosted by the Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa (MPASA), opened on 8 August 2013. You and your colleagues now have only three weeks left to decide which of your best work you want to enter for this prestigious award. See below for more details and do not miss the deadline for early bird entries!

NEW CATEGORY – ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE PICA AWARDS

Youth market: children’s magazines and teen’s magazines

This brand new magazine category recognises excellence in magazines aimed at the youth market. It comprises two sub-categories: children’s magazines and teen’s magazines. The winner of each sub-category will advance to a final judging session in which the overall Youth Market winner will be selected.

Magazines from any of the three publishing sectors – consumer, business-to-business and customer – qualify, provided two editions are submitted and ABC figures are available. Magazines should have a frequency of at least four issues a year.

In the children’s magazines sub-category, at least 75% of the readership should be under 13 years of age.

In the teen’s magazines sub-category, at least 75% of the readership should fall within the 13 to 19 years age group.

• Date of gala dinner: 14 November 2013
• Venue of gala dinner: Emperors Palace (close to OR Tambo International Airport)
